Pentagon DU - Huntley Meadows Park Stream Clean Up

Pentagon Chapter GreenWings help clean and pick up trash on Barnyard Run Stream running through the Huntley Meadows Park in Alexandria, VA in addition to maintaining 3 wood duck boxes installed in 2021 and planning to add 3 new boxes. The event will start in the main parking lot at 9:00 AM (coffee and donuts will be available at 8:30 AM). The Pentagon Chapter has partnered with Huntley Meadows for better than 10 years and supported their duck nesting program by providing 30 predator guards over the years for the park’s 22 wood duck boxes and 8 mallard nesting cones. Our GreenWings will be removing trash and debris from runoff in the park and stream. Additionally, they will help check our 3 existing wood duck boxes replacing bedding and counting eggshell fragments and assist with the install of 3 new boxes this year. This is a fun event to bring the whole family to and everyone will be home by lunchtime but please remember to bring boots and a change of clothes because things can get a bit wet & muddy. Last year (2021), we gained a new partner in Wetland Studies & Solutions, Inc. (WSSI) that sponsored both our Mason Neck and our Huntley Meadows events and it is a partnership our chapter is very excited about for the future. WSSI will again be sponsoring the stream clean-up event at Huntley Meadows Park and all GreenWing ticket costs, coffee & donuts, & swag bags are being provided by WSSI.

We will be raffling a youth model shotgun at our upcoming banquet on September 17, 2022.  Raffle tickets for the youth shotgun will be handed out to those Parent(s) and Greenwing(s) in attendance at the banquet who also attended either Mason Neck or Huntley Meadows event…Must be present to win.  All State and Federal Firearms regulations apply. See you in September!
