Right here in LaBelle and across Southwest Florida, our wetlands need champions. By volunteering with Ducks Unlimited, you’re helping conserve the land and water that define this region. Get involved, meet great people, and leave a lasting impact on the places we all care about.
Florida is home to some of the most important wetlands in North America, serving as critical habitat for both resident and migratory waterfowl along the Atlantic Flyway. However, these ecosystems have been dramatically reduced over time. Since statehood, Florida has lost approximately 44% of its wetlands, and historically the state has lost millions of acres, around 13 million acres, primarily due to development and agriculture.
Ducks Unlimited is working to reverse that trend by restoring, enhancing, and protecting vital wetland habitats across the state. Through partnerships with state and federal agencies, DU has helped conserve and improve tens of thousands of acres of wetland habitat in Florida, including projects tied to major efforts like the Everglades restoration and coastal wetland conservation initiatives.
