WHY / ABOUT
DUCKS UNLIMITED:
With the mission of grasslands and wetlands habitat conservation, Ducks Unlimited (www.Ducks.org) is the world's leader in wetlands and waterfowl conservation. Wetlands and grasslands are key to the survival and sustainability of waterfowl and other wildlife.
Ducks Unlimited began during the Dust Bowl, in 1937, when North America’s drought-plagued waterfowl populations had plunged to unprecedented lows. Determined not to sit idly by as the continent’s waterfowl dwindled beyond recovery, a small group of sportsmen joined together to form an organization that became known as Ducks Unlimited. Land protection is a critical tool by which the organization conserves habitat and, from a public policy standpoint, Ducks Unlimited is the voice for waterfowl in Washington, D.C.
Ducks Unlimited takes a continental approach to conservation; the organization’s conservation programs are rooted in research and science. The local Ducks Unlimited chapters -- such as the Beach Cities Ducks Unlimited -- carry out regional initiatives designed to connect people and resources to preserve critical habitats, protect waterfowl, and help achieve the organization’s mission.
