2024 Gumbo Cook Off

Team Rules and Regulations

 

ALLERGY ALERT: Please avoid using ingredients that people have a common allergy to (i.e. nuts). If you decide to use these ingredients, make sure there is a sign clearly labeling included common allergens.

 

Basic Event Info

     Date: February 24th, 2024

     Place: Service Chevrolet Cadillac Lafayette

     Check-in/Setup: Teams are welcome to set up anytime after 6:00 AM, but official check-in is from 8:00-8:45 AM

     Mandatory Meeting with Teams (only one representative needed): 9:00 AM

     Cook Time: 6:00 AM - 11:30 AM

     Event Time: 11:00AM-3:00PM

     Categories (Subject to add 1,2,3 place should there be a large amount of team entries):

Entry Fee:

-       $100 for Regular Teams (DU chapters, Individuals, and Businesses)

-       $50 Student Organizations

-       $15 General Admission

-       $10 Student Admission

Your Team Entry Fee Includes:

       10x10-booth space. You are responsible for your own tent, tables and chairs.

o   PLEASE BRING SOMETHING TO TIE DOWN AND/OR SECURE YOUR TENT.

       Trash bag(s), spoons, and gumbo judging bowls will be provided, though it is recommended you bring extra just in case. RICE WILL NOT BE PROVIDED.

  1. All teams hereby agree to indemnify and hold harmless the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and the UL Lafayette Ducks Unlimited Student Chapter (including its Officers, Directors, Members, and Volunteers) for all costs and expenses, including reasonable attorney fees incurred as a result of any legal action, in law or equity, brought against them as a result of our participation in the Gumbo Cook Off on February 24, 2024. We further waive all rights of recovery against the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and the UL Lafayette Ducks Unlimited Student Chapter for loss or damage as a result of our participation and at our sole expense agree to name the additional insured on our commercial general liability policy on a primary and noncontributory basis.

 

  1. The Gumbo Cook-off takes place on February 24th, 2024. The Gumbo Cook-Off is a rain-or-shine and may only be canceled or postponed due to extreme (hurricane, tornado) weather, dangerous circumstances, etc. Due to this event being a fundraiser, fees and costs such as team entry fee, ticket costs, etc. will not be refunded FULLY in the rare chance of an event cancellation or postponement. In case of postponement, all entry fees will be carried over until said date.

 

  1. There will be a 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and Fan Favorite award. Fan Favorite awards will be determined by a ticket jar at your booth. Each attendee will receive a ticket upon checking into the event.

 

  1. Contestants are responsible for providing the tent, team tables and chairs, as well as any necessary supplies and equipment to make your gumbo. THE UL LAFAYETTE DUCKS UNLIMITED STUDENT CHAPTER WILL NOT PROVIDE RICE FOR THE CONTESTANTS. You are responsible for your own rice, meat, vegetables, roux, etc. It is encouraged that you bring your own plastic bowls and spoons for tasting as a backup.

 

  1. It is expected that the gumbo itself will be made on site. You are encouraged to cook your meats, roux, etc, at the event and have time allotted to do so.

 

  1. Set-up starts at 6:30 am and your gumbo must be completed by 11:30 am on February 24th, 2024. All teams can begin cooking your gumbo as soon as your team is set up. Judging cups will be delivered around 11:30 am.

 

  1. Gate opens to the public at 11:00 am.

 

  1. Judging will begin at 11:30 am. 

 

  1. TEAM WILL BE ABLE TO PROVIDE 8-10 GALLONS OF GUMBO for the cook off that will be held Saturday February 24th, 2024.

 

 

No team will be permitted without written consent to these forms.
